An earthquake of 7.7 magnitude hit Myanmar on Friday, Mar. 28, leaving 144 dead and 732 injured.

The first earthquake was followed by a 6.4-magnitude aftershock throughout Myanmar, Thailand, India, Vietnam, and Bangladesh.

The epicenter of the earthquake was in Mandalay in Myanmar, and it hit the country at midday. 

At least 144 individuals died in Myanmar during the earthquake, while three died in Bangkok, Thailand.

In Mandalay, buildings collapsed, roads caved in, and highways were damaged. Ava bridge collapsed, and there were reports of deaths at a mosque during Friday prayers. 

Myanmar's shadow foreign minister sought urgent international humanitarian support and technical help. The country has declared a state of emergency in Sagaing, Mandalay and Naypyitaw.

In Bangkok, a 33-storey building under construction in Chatuchak market collapsed because of the earthquake. 

The earthquake led to the shutdown of Bangkok's rapid transit system and subway. The city hall declared the city a disaster area to facilitate the response.
