Saudi football club Al Hilal have upped their offer for Argentinian football star Lionel Messi to USD $500 million, according to well-connected Catalan businessman Jaume Roures.

Roures, owner of Barcelona-based media company MediaPro, appeared on Cadena SER and its Qué t'hi jugues programme on Wednesday, May 17th. During the program, the businessman who is very close to Barcelona President Joan Laporta, discussed the probability of Messi returning to Blaugrana this summer as opposed to joining Al Hilal.

"I think it's possible that he will come back, even though the Saudis have upped the ante to over $500 million a year," said Roures

Messi's contract with his current club Paris Saint Germain will expire on June 30th. Although Roures talked about Al Hilal's pursuit of Messi, he also emphasized the possibility of the Argentinian World Cup winner's affection for the Catalan club.

"Leo has always said that he wanted to return to Barcelona and this is a factor that weighs," Roures added.

Reports about Messi's move to Al Hilal began circulating early in May when the footballer visited Saudi Arabia with his family. However, Messi's father has denied these reports and stressed that no decision will be made until the end of the current football season.
