This marks Bahrain’s second Gulf Cup title, following their maiden triumph in 2019.
The final began with Oman taking an early lead, courtesy of Abdulrahman Al-Mushaifri’s strike in the 17th minute. Oman maintained their advantage for over an hour until Bahrain turned the game on its head late in the second half. Mohamed Marhoon equalized from the penalty spot in the 78th minute, and just two minutes later, an own goal by Oman’s Mohammed Al-Maslami sealed Bahrain’s comeback win.
Bahrain’s road to the title was no less dramatic. Marhoon played a crucial role in their semifinal victory over hosts Kuwait, netting the only goal in a hard-fought 1-0 win. Oman, on the other hand, booked their place in the final after edging past Saudi Arabia 2-1 in their semifinal clash.
The Gulf Cup, a biennial tournament with a 55-year history, has seen Bahrain come close multiple times, only to fall short in finals in 1970, 1982, 1992, and 2003-04. This victory, however, cements their place in the region's football legacy.
Looking ahead, the Arabian Gulf Cup’s next edition will take place in Saudi Arabia in 2026. The kingdom, rapidly establishing itself as a global football hub, was recently confirmed as the host for the 2034 FIFA Men’s World Cup, marking another milestone in its ambitious sports agenda.
Bahrain’s triumph not only adds another chapter to its football history but also sets the stage for future regional rivalries in the Arabian Gulf Cup.
