Bahrain has been ranked 82nd globally and first in the Gulf region for the highest per capita book readership in 2024, according to Ceoworld magazine. The average Bahraini reads 3.44 books per year, dedicating 77 hours to reading.

Gulf Reading Habits
Oman secured second place in the Gulf and 89th globally, with Omanis reading an average of 3.13 books annually and spending 69 hours reading. Kuwait ranked third in the region, placing 90th globally with an average of 3.08 books per year, also at 69 hours of reading.
Qatar took fourth place in the Gulf (93rd globally) with 2.93 books per person annually, followed by the UAE (98th globally, 2.71 books) and Saudi Arabia (99th globally, 2.69 books), both dedicating 60 hours annually to reading.
Global Comparison
On the global scale, the United States and India topped the list, with Americans reading an average of 17 books per year, and Indians reading 16. The report also highlighted that despite the rise of e-books and audiobooks, physical books remain the preferred medium in these countries.
The Future of the Book Market
The report noted that the global book market was valued at $144.67 billion in 2023. It is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 1.8% from 2024 to 2030, reflecting a steady increase in readership and book consumption worldwide.
