Maxwell smashed 106 runs off only 44 balls to lead Australia to 399-8 (50 overs) with nine fours and eight majestic sixes.
David Warner, who made his second consecutive century and his 22nd overall in one-day internationals, was overshadowed by Maxwell's record when he came in to bat in the 39th over.
In just 21 overs, the Netherlands was bowled out for a pitiful 90 runs. With a victory margin of runs greater than any other in World Cup history, Australia's net run rate increased significantly from -0.193 to +1.142.
Additionally, it was the second-largest victory margin in ODIs (measured in runs).
With two points, the Netherlands fell from seventh to tenth place in the standings, behind only Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and the reigning champions England in terms of run rate.
