Al-Fayed was one of the most high-profile businessmen in Britain; aside from previously owning Fulham Football Club, he was also the former owner of luxury department store Harrods and the Ritz hotel in Paris.
A family statement released by the Fulham FC confirmed that Al-Fayed had passed away "peacefully of old age on Wednesday August 30, 2023."
"He enjoyed a long and fulfilled retirement surrounded by his loved ones. The family have asked for their privacy to be respected at this time," the statement read.
In a separate statement, Fulham FC also expressed its sadness over the death of its former owner.
Everyone at Fulham was incredibly saddened to learn of the death of our former Owner and Chairman, Mohamed Al Fayed.

We owe Mohamed a debt of gratitude for what he did for our Club, and our thoughts now are with his family and friends at this sombre time.
Al-Fayed was the father of film producer Dodi Fayed, who had died in the tragic 1997 car crash alongside the late Princess Diana. Al-Fayed's death came just a day before the 26th anniversary of Dodi and Diana's death.
