The initiative started in July 1, 2020 as part of the Roads and Transport Authority’s policy to support Dubai’s Green Mobility Strategy to encourage the use of electric and environment-friendly vehicles. The scheme will run till July 2020 and Dubai will allow electric car owners to park in public places for free.
As the city has seen a rise in the popularity of hybrid vehicles including public taxis, along with the cars run by Careem and Uber.
As an incentive, this will contribute to the air quality, in curbing carbon emissions and enhancing sustainability measures in the region with the use of environmentally-friendly vehicles.
As reported by The National, Maitha bin Adai, from the RTA said that just over 1,800 vehicle owners will benefit, adding that the car must be licensed in Dubai and not the other emirates.
In addition, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) had earlier announced that non-commercial electric vehicles that are registered with the EV Green Charger program will also get “power-ups for free at Dewa public charging stations up until December 31, 2021”.
