Israel has killed Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in a major airstrike in Beirut, shaking the militant group as tensions surge across the region. The Israeli military confirmed on Saturday that Nasrallah was killed during a strike on Hezbollah’s headquarters in Beirut’s southern suburbs on Friday.

Nasrallah's death is a severe blow to Hezbollah and its primary backer, Iran, as he played a pivotal role in strengthening Hezbollah's influence throughout the region. His assassination disrupts the power dynamics between Hezbollah, Iran, and Israel. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the strike, calling it a crucial step in reshaping the balance of power in the Middle East.

U.S. President Joe Biden expressed his support for Israel’s right to defend itself but also urged for a ceasefire to prevent further escalation. Meanwhile, Iran called for an urgent United Nations Security Council meeting, condemning Israel’s actions and vowing retaliation for Nasrallah’s death.

In Lebanon, Israeli airstrikes killed 33 people and injured 195 others on Saturday, while over a million Lebanese have been displaced. Hezbollah vowed to continue its battle against Israel in defense of Lebanon and Palestine.

As the conflict rages on, global leaders are pushing for peace, but tensions remain dangerously high.
