HIA Increases in Passenger Traffic by 164% in First Half of 2022
In the first half of 2022, passenger traffic at Hamad International Airport (HIA) increased by more than 164 percent as compared to the same time in 2017. Data from the Civil Aviation Authority showed that whereas the airport witnessed a movement of 5,895,090 passengers in the first half of 2021, HIA reported 15,571,432 passengers in the first half of this year.
Aircraft movements at HIA during the first half of 2022 increased by 33.2% in comparison to the corresponding period in 2021. In contrast to the 75,533 aircraft, it had received in the first half of 2021, the airport received 100,594 in the first half of 2022.

In the first half of 2022 compared to the same period in 2021, air freight and mail showed a fall of 9.4%.
The Civil Aviation Authority recently published statistics for June 2022, which also indicated an increase in the number of planes and passengers using Hamad International Airport.
In June 2022, Hamad International Airport (HIA) saw a 149.3 percent increase in passengers and a 39.3 percent increase in aircraft traffic. The QCAA had stated, "The movement of aircraft at HIA in June surged by 39.3 percent compared to the same month last year," in a statement on its official Twitter account. In comparison to June 2021, there were 149.3 percent more travelers.
In June of the previous year, the airport recorded 13,031 aircraft movements, but in June of this year, that number increased to 18,155. The number of passengers passing through HIA increased from 1,245,766 in June 2017 to 3,106, 063 in June 2022.
The most recent statistics confirm HIA's expansion and recent designation by Skytrax as the World's Best Airport for the second consecutive year.
In research released last month, the QCAA forecasted that between November and December 2022, there will be over seven million passengers passing through Qatar's airports, including arrivals, departures, and transits.
According to the estimate, about 28,000 scheduled and chartered flights are anticipated to take place at Hamad International Airport (HIA) and Doha International Airport between November 21 and December 18, 2022, during the FIFA World Cup.
According to the QCAA, assuming that the travel recovery continues, and more nations lift health-related travel restrictions, passenger traffic forecasts indicate the possibility of recording a significant increase ranging from +90% to +105% compared to 2021, bringing the total number of passengers in the year to approximately 34 million.
HIA recently claimed that its two-phased, passenger-focused development plan would guarantee more capacity and more facilities to handle the increasing passenger capacity.
