Kanlaon Volcano, located on Negros Island in the central Philippines, erupted early Tuesday morning, April 8, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
The eruption began at 5:51 AM, sending a massive ash plume soaring up to 4,000 meters high. The thick column of smoke drifted southwest, affecting areas around the volcano.

Pyroclastic flows recorded on southern slope
Phivolcs confirmed that pyroclastic density currents (PDCs) — fast-moving, deadly clouds of hot gas, ash, and debris — rolled down the southern side of the volcano. These were captured by infrared and thermal cameras monitoring the area.
Kanlaon remains at Alert Level 3
Alert Level 3 remains in effect, meaning the volcano is still in a high state of unrest and more eruptions are possible. Phivolcs has strongly warned the public to avoid the four-kilometer permanent danger zone due to the risk of sudden explosions and volcanic hazards.
Locals and nearby communities are urged to remain cautious and stay updated through official advisories.
