The exhibition featured three iconic cars and showcased the conceptual design of the project, which was completed by the Metropolitan Office of Architecture (OMA) and led by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Rem Koolhaas.
The second part of the exhibition "A Look at the Qatar Automobile Museum Project" focuses on one of the most important aspects of the museum's project, which is the community-participation aspect. It also celebrates the rich and distinctive car culture in Qatar by displaying exceptional racing cars in heritage sites.
This exhibition highlights the car as a common denominator that connects different peoples and unites cultures. It also gives visitors a unique opportunity to learn about the car culture in Qatar, private museums, car collectors, sports car clubs, and the most important Qatari motorsport champions.
Ahmed Musa al-Namlah, CEO of Qatar Museums, praised the support provided by the Seashore Group in the exhibition “A Look at the Qatar Automobile Museum Project”, which is a major step in building the legacy of Qatar Museums and conveying the voice of the car enthusiast community in Qatar.
In turn, Dr. Hessa Sultan Al Jaber, President of the Qatar Automobile Museum, praised the Seashore Group for sponsoring the second part of this exhibition and for completing it from old materials that have been repurposed in a distinctive way that reflects the vision of the museum project and promotes a culture of sustainability. Expressing its aspiration for more cooperation relations that promote a culture of innovation, creativity, dialogue, and participation.
The exhibition, which is located in front of Al Zubarah Fort, includes three distinctive cars.
The first is the Volkswagen Touareg racing car (3rd generation) that was developed to participate in the Dakar International Rally in 2011, in which Nasser bin Saleh Al-Attiyah, the Qatari rally driver, was crowned the champion of the Dakar Rally for the first time. The car is presented at the exhibition with the support of the Volkswagen Group.
The second car is the Ford Bronco XLT (4th generation), which was previously driven by Saeed Al-Hajri, the Qatari rally driver, and one of the founders of motorsports in Qatar and the Arab world. The car is loaned to the exhibition from the possessions of Mr. Salem Saeed Al Mohannadi.
The third car is a BMW M2CS sports car, which is loaned to the exhibition from Mathaf Tobeila's collection of Mr. Omar Hussein Al Fardan.
To encourage visitors to explore Qatar's heritage sites, Qatar Museums and Seashore group will also present a similar exhibition of other exceptional cars at the Barzan Towers heritage site in Umm Salal Mohammed, from November 14 to December 20, 2022.
