Smuggled Gold Worth AED320,000 Caught With Dubai Passenger to Delhi

Delhi Airport Customs caught a passenger who travelled on a flight from Dubai to New Delhi trying to smuggle two gold rods in their luggage.

Weighing more than 1.4kg, the two gold rods are worth around AED320,000. According to authorities, the gold was concealed inside the check-in bag.

There is no limit on the amount of gold a person can export from the UAE, and there are no taxes to be paid as you leave the country.

On Monday, May 10, 2.5kg of gold granules worth an estimated Dh600,000 ($163,345) hidden in four containers of the instant orange drink, Tang, were caught by the customs in Chennai.

Gold paste worth AED200,00 was recovered by the same customs authority on the same day after the passenger hid it in their underwear.

Passengers arriving into India must declare high volumes with duties import duty fees equivalent to 10.75 per cent of the gold’s value paid to the Indian government. While smaller volumes of gold are allowed without taxes.

Male passengers can bring in up to 20 grams of gold worth 50,000 rupees ($688) duty free, while women are allowed 40 grams.
