The 2014 FIFA World Cup is the twentieth round of the FIFA World Cup, which was held in the continent of South America after the International Football Association established the rotation system between the continents and selected the South American continent in which the tournament will be held, and no country requested hosting except Brazil, which submitted the file On July 31, 2007.

This was the second time that the tournament was held in Brazil after the 1950 World Cup, and thus Brazil became the fifth country to host the tournament twice on its soil (after Mexico, France, Italy, and Germany). It was the first time that the South American continent hosted the World Cup since the 1978 World Cup, which was held in Argentina, it is also the first time that two consecutive tournaments have been organized outside the European continent after the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

All the teams that won the FIFA World Cup since the first edition of the tournament in 1930 participated in this tournament, Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Germany, Italy, France, Spain, and England.

The defending champions Spain, Italy, and England were eliminated from the group stage, Uruguay was eliminated from the round of 16, France was eliminated from the quarterfinals, and Germany, Argentina, Brazil, and the Netherlands qualified for the semi-finals, where the German team managed to win the championship title for the fourth time in its history. After defeating Argentina with a single goal, Germany becomes the first European team to win the World Cup in the Latin continent.

The draw placed Germany in Group G along with Portugal, the United States, and Ghana.

Germany opened its group stage matches on June 16, against Portugal at the Fonte stadium Nova in Salvador de Bahia city.

At 1:30 pm local time in Brazil, Serbian international referee Miurad Majic blew his whistle, announcing the start of the match.

Germany’s goal was scored by Thomas Muller (his fourth goal in the tournament).

Thus, Germany qualified for the second round with the lead of the group after achieving 7 points from two wins and a draw.
