A man was given permission to hack Dubai Police’s website and take it offline during an exercise at the Gulf Information Security Expo and Conference (Gisec).
Marshal Webb was able to do the exercise on stage in just two minutes, a move that would normally be a criminal act.
The exercise was an example of how hackers can breach even the most secure of institutions.
Marshal Webb owns Path Network, security consultancy which advises public and private enitites on how to defend themselves against hackers.
Webb was a part of, Lulz Security – a group of hackers who looked to breach business and government systems when he was a teenager.
The group claimed responsibility for several high-profile attacks, including a hack in 2011 when the personal details of about 100 million PlayStation users were stolen from Sony's servers.
