Back in December 2019, the UAE launched a major search for two astronauts to join Maj Al Mansouri and Sultan Al Neyadi with 4,305 Emiratis vying for the role.
The two new Emirati astronauts will train at Nasa’s Johnson Space Centre in Houston once the next class begins in the second half of 2021. Once they graduate, they will qualify for Nasa-led missions to space.
Maj Al Mansouri made history when he became the first Emirati to journey into space in September, 2019.
Hazzaa and I will not continue our training alone as 2 new astronauts will join us soon. During the phases of selecting the second batch of the UAE Astronaut Programme, I felt great enthusiasm and now, it is bigger as we approach the announcement of the new Emirati astronauts. pic.twitter.com/pz9fWnM3p1
