Patriotic Bollywood Films to Watch on India's Republic Day

Pathaan (2023)


Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan's blockbuster film 'Pathaan' is about an Indian RAW agent who tries to take down a former agent, who is planning an attack on India. 

Alongside, Khan the film features Deepika Padukone and John Abraham.

The film became the third-highest-grossing Hindi film of all time!

Shershaah (2021)


 

'Shershaah' is an Indian biographical war film about the life of Vikram Batra, who was killed in the Kargil war. 

The film features Bollywood's star couple Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani in lead roles. 

'Shershaah' is about Vikram Batra's aspirations to join the army since he was a young boy and how he eventually does and rises in the military ranks to help India win the Kargil War. 

If that's not an inspiring film about patriotism, then what is?

Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl (2020)


This is another Indian biographical drama film about the Indian female Air Force pilot Gunjan Saxena who was one of the first women to fly in a combat zone. 

The film, directed by Sharan Sharma, features Sridevi's daughter Janhvi Kapoor, Pankaj Tripathi, and Angad Bedi. 

This film inspires many young women to pursue their dreams of flying high and serving their country, which is perfect for Republic Day!

Sardhar Udham (2021)


This is another biographical film based on the life of Udham Singh, who assassinated Michael O'Dwyer in London to avenge the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre. 

The film received five National Awards and nine Filmfare Awards.

'Sardhar Udham' features Vicky Kaushal in the lead role. 

Rang De Basanti (2006)


If you're looking for another pre-independence plotline, then 'Rang De Basanti' is a must-watch!

The film is about a British film student travelling to India to shoot a film about five freedom fighters in the Indian Revolutionary Movement.

The story isn't based in the pre-independence era, but the story focuses on how the story of the freedom fighters influences the main characters in the film to fight the corruption of their government. 

The film features Aamir Khan, R. Madhavan, Kunal Kapoor, Sharman Joshi, and others. 

Republic Day is a perfect time for a rewatch of this iconic film!

Swades (2004)


'Swades' is another Shah Rukh Khan film that features the superstar as an NRI scientist Mohan Bhargava working for NASA.

However, after witnessing the conditions of a village during a visit to India, Mohan decides to relocate to India and continue his work there. 

'Swades' perfectly depicts one's love and dedication to his homeland, despite living abroad. 

Lagaan (2001)


 

'Lagaan' is another Aamir Khan film, but this one is completely set in the pre-independence era, in the late Victorian era in the British Raj.

The film is about a group of Indian villagers who play a cricket match with the British Army Officers to be exempted from paying the taxes they owe. 

'Lagaan' is must must-watch on Republic Day because it highlights the hard work and determination of the Indian villagers in the face of adversity, which is the perfect inspiration for patriotism on this occasion. 

Mission Mangal (2019)


This is another film revolving around the work of Indian scientists at the Indian Space Research Organization.

The film features Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, Sonakshi Sinha, and Taapsee Pannu.
