Why I choose to fly Emirates A380 in any class!
Like many frequent travelers whose careers requires hopping from one country to another, travel has become a pain with extra security, long queues and crowded planes. It is not something you look forward to. Right?
One exception to the above is being a loyal frequent traveler of Emirates. This is where travel becomes a joy. Yes, I truly mean it. One of the things I look forward to is knowing that my next Emirates flight is going to be on a beautiful big bird the Airbus A380.
I have been lucky to experience traveling on the A380 as a First Class passenger (and yes enjoyed my own cabin and the shower at 40K feet!).
Most of my travel is in the Business Class cabin and overall it is just perfect. From the complimentary chauffeur service to access to world class lounges to the impeccable service on board. It really can’t get any better.
However, there are times when you are unable to travel in Business Class. I flew from Dubai to London Heathrow on the A380 (Economy class). Being a big guy, I was apprehensive of the idea getting stuck between other passengers in narrow seats with short legroom for 8 hours. I was unable to get any preferred seat due to a fully booked flight. Yes over 600 passengers – (note Dubai-Heathrow route is Emirates most frequented and profitable route).
I was seated in economy at the back of the plane. Luckily, I managed to get a window seat, perhaps my Skywards status helped me escape the middle seats (seating configuration is 3–4–3). The meal service is prompt but can't be compared to business class.
The movie selection was pretty good and the entertainment system was easy to get around. The best part of the flight that truthfully helped me survive the eight hours is the complimentary Wi-Fi (as a Gold member, you have unlimited Wi-Fi). I managed to stay in touch with the office, family and take care of critical emails. USB and power charger makes it super convenient to charge your mobile or laptop.
Overall the experience was fine, the seat was nice and comfortable. Indeed being in Economy is not the experience you want when traveling on business, it is probably the best Economy Class in the world. I am happy I have experienced First, Business and Economy and I know for a fact, Emirates is my preferred carrier.
BONUS! Make sure you have your Skywards account. It is an amazing way to get upgrades and other perks
