Bahrain Launches Ambulance Motorcycles for Faster Response

The new service aims to enhance response times, especially in traffic-heavy areas

In an effort to improve emergency services, Bahrain has launched a first responder ambulance motorcycle service. This initiative follows the approval of a proposal in the Government Innovation Competition (Fikra), led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. The new service is designed to provide quicker responses to emergencies, particularly in areas with heavy traffic or narrow roads.

How the Service Works

The service operates in two key stages to ensure fast and efficient response times:

Deployment Phase

When a call is made to the emergency hotline (999), the National Ambulance Operations Room deploys motorcycle units to the scene. This is especially helpful in areas that are hard to reach by traditional ambulances due to congestion or narrow streets.

Response Phase

Upon arrival, paramedics on motorcycles provide immediate medical attention for emergencies such as cardiac arrest, severe injuries, drowning, choking, and other critical conditions. If necessary, conventional ambulances are called in for further assistance and transport.

Specialized Training for Ambulance Motorcycle Teams

The team behind this service consists of paramedics who have undergone intensive training in motorcycle driving and emergency medical services. Their training ensures they can effectively navigate traffic and reach accident sites as quickly as possible, improving the chances of saving lives in urgent situations.
