Bahrain Push for School Break in Last 10 Days of Ramadan

Bahraini MPs are calling for a school break during the last ten days of Ramadan, securing parliamentary backing for the proposal on Tuesday. The initiative, led by five lawmakers, aims to give students the chance to focus on worship without the burden of schoolwork.

A Call for Spiritual Prioritization

MP Hassan Eid Bukhamas spearheaded the motion, with support from Second Deputy Speaker Ahmed Qarata, Dr. Muneer Suroor, Mohammed Al Ahmed, and Mohammed Al Olaiwi. They argue that this period holds deep religious significance, particularly with Laylatul Qadr—described in the Quran as "better than a thousand months"—falling within these final days.

Strengthening Faith and Tradition

Bukhamas highlighted the importance of the last stretch of Ramadan, noting that it is a time for intensified prayer, spiritual renewal, and forgiveness of past sins. Many Muslims also observe i'tikaf, a Sunnah practice where they dedicate themselves entirely to worship, following the example of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
