Bahrain Ranks 1st in Arab Region at MMA World Championship

Bahrain's national mixed martial arts (MMA) team has earned the highest ranking among Arab nations and fifth place globally at the 10th IMMAF World Championship for youth and seniors held in Uzbekistan. The team brought home two gold medals, one silver, and a bronze, marking a significant achievement in the international MMA scene.

Winning Performances in the Finals

The team’s success was led by Ghadzi Ghadzhiev, who took the gold in the 88.4 kg division after a decisive win over Kazakhstan’s Abylai Shakerbekov. Gimbat Magomedov also secured gold in the 79.4 kg category with a strong performance against Ukraine’s Bohdan Voloshyn, winning by unanimous decision.

Additional Medals for Team Bahrain

Magomed Sheikhov fought through a knee injury sustained in the semi-finals, earning a silver in the 56.7 kg category after a challenging final bout against Tajikistan’s Yoqubjon Safarov. In the 97+ kg division, Sultan Gapizov claimed bronze despite a hand injury that prevented him from competing in the semi-finals. Gapizov, a former champion, has previously won the 2023 RDX Performance Award and other medals at both the IMMAF World and Asia Championships.

Celebrating Bahrain’s Wins on the Global Stage

The IMMAF World Championship's 10th edition featured Bahrain’s national anthem twice, celebrating the victories of Ghadzhiev and Magomedov. Notably, this year’s event introduced championship belts for all first-place winners, enhancing the experience by emulating the professional MMA championship tradition of awarding belts to top fighters.
