Big Ben Clock Goes Back to GMT for the First Time in 5 Years

After major repairs and maintenance on Big Ben over the past five years, all four of Big Ben's faces were returned to GMT in the early hours of Sunday morning, as British Daylight-Saving Time (BST) officially ended at 2 AM.

This is the first time the clock has been returned to GMT since it was restored and installed in the tower earlier this year, and it required 24 hours of work from the clock mechanic's team to ensure that all 2,000 timepieces across the estate are changed.

The lights on the four clock faces were turned off at 10 PM on Saturday for two hours and then turned back on at 2 AM when GMT is official, so people wouldn't get confused.

It is noteworthy that Big Ben was designed and installed in 1859, with the goal of creating the world's most accurate public clock.
