Madhrooba Joins Global Culinary Guide as Signature Recipes

Bahrain has solidified its place on the global culinary map with the inclusion of Madhrooba, a cherished traditional dish, in the UN’s prestigious culinary guide.

The announcement was made during the 9th UN World Tourism Organization Forum on Gastronomy Tourism, hosted for the first time in the Middle East at the Bahrain International Exhibition Center on November 18-19.

The forum, a collaboration between the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA), the UNWTO, and the Basque Culinary Center, showcased Bahrain’s vibrant food scene.

At the heart of the event was Chef Tala Bashmi, named Best Chef in the Middle East and North Africa, who brought Madhrooba to international acclaim. Her artistry highlighted Bahrain’s culinary heritage and the kingdom's unique flavors.

Sarah Buhejji, CEO of the BTEA, emphasized the milestone as a step forward in Bahrain’s culinary tourism ambitions. With over 155 tourist-friendly eateries and plans to welcome international restaurants, Bahrain continues to grow as a global dining destination.

The forum also offered immersive experiences, including visits to artisan centers and family-run businesses, giving attendees a deeper connection to Bahrain’s culture. By putting Madhrooba on the world stage, Bahrain has cemented its status as a rising star in gastronomy tourism.
