UAE, Bahrain Take Lead in Global Gender Parity in the MENA Region

The UAE, Bahrain has achieved the highest gender parity in the GCC according to the Global Gender Gap Report 2023 issued by the World Economic Forum.

The UAE came in 71th place, while Bahrain recorded significant progress in the ranking as it reached 113th place, going up 18 ranks compared to last year's report.

Bahrain ranked first in the world in four of the subindexes monitored by the report, which are literacy rate, educational attainment, and sex ratios at birth.

Bahrain scored 66.6 percent in closing the gender gap, compared to the global average of 68 percent, while the UAE scored 71.2 percent.

Bahrain ranking improved at the level of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, increasing by six places compared to last year's report, placing it third in the region.

The report this year covers 146 countries, and it discusses four main components (subindexes) of the index: economic participation and opportunity, educational attainment, health and survival, and political empowerment.

The Global Gender Gap Index annually benchmarks the current state and evolution of gender parity across the four key dimensions.
