Arab Leaders Meet in Riyadh to Oppose Gaza Takeover

Arab leaders are gathering in Riyadh on Friday to discuss a Gaza reconstruction plan aimed at countering former US President Donald Trump's controversial proposal to relocate Gaza’s 2.3 million residents and redevelop the coastal enclave, according to sources.

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is hosting an "informal brotherly" meeting with leaders from the UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, Jordan, and Egypt. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has also been invited.

The proposed reconstruction plan, drafted by Egyptian experts, involves setting up "safe zones" with tents and caravans for Gaza’s residents while destroyed homes and infrastructure are rebuilt. The plan focuses on restoring essential services and boosting agriculture, with the workforce coming from within Gaza.

An emergency Arab summit in Cairo on March 4 will follow, seeking a united stance against Trump's plan, which envisions a US-led redevelopment of Gaza as the "Riviera of the Middle East."

The reconstruction initiative could cost up to $50 billion and aims to maintain Palestinian self-determination, with strong opposition from Egypt, Jordan, and international rights groups.

The success of the plan hinges on funding and maintaining the ceasefire established in January. However, concerns remain over Israel’s willingness to fully withdraw from Gaza.
