Bahrain Approves Higher Unemployment Allowance

Unemployed university graduates in Bahrain will now receive BD 300 monthly, while others without work will get BD 250, following a new law passed by Parliament on Tuesday. The change aims to provide stronger financial support to job seekers, especially young professionals and graduates.

The move came after a four-hour session where members of Parliament also pushed through additional laws and proposals.

Simpler Construction Permits and Home Extensions

Lawmakers also approved changes to make the construction process easier for residents. The new rule allows small home expansions — up to 100 square meters — to go ahead without needing an engineer’s approval. This is expected to speed up and cut costs for homeowners.

The process for getting construction permits will also be simplified, making it easier for people to build or upgrade their homes.

Firefighters Get Hazard Pay, Insurance Boost

In a show of support for emergency service workers, Parliament approved extra benefits for firefighters. These include hazard pay and better insurance coverage, recognizing the risks involved in their jobs.

New Women’s Center for Southern Governorate

MPs also gave the green light to a new sports and social center for women in Bahrain’s Southern Governorate. The facility will serve residents of the 8th and 10th districts, aiming to create more community spaces focused on women’s health and wellbeing.

What Else Was Passed?

In addition to the changes in unemployment aid and community development, Parliament approved updates to the Real Estate Lease Law and national standards regulations to keep pace with current needs and improve legal clarity.
