Duaa for Iftar (Supplication for Breaking the Fast)

When breaking the fast at iftar, it is recommended to say a specific duaa (supplication). One of the most common and authentic supplications reported from the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is:

Commonly Recited Dua at Iftar:

اللهم لك صمت، وعلى رزقك أفطرت
Allahumma laka sumtu, wa ‘ala rizqika aftartu.
"O Allah, I have fasted for You, and with Your provision, I break my fast."
(Abu Dawood 2358)

Another Authentic Dua at Iftar:

ذهب الظمأ وابتلت العروق وثبت الأجر إن شاء الله
Dhahaba al-zama’, wabtallat al-‘urooq, wa thabata al-ajru in sha’ Allah.
"The thirst has gone, the veins have been moistened, and the reward is confirmed, if Allah wills."
(Abu Dawood 2357, Hasan by Al-Albani)

  • The time of iftar is a blessed moment when duas are accepted.
  • It is recommended to make personal supplications as well before breaking the fast.
  • Saying Bismillah before eating is also a good practice.
