UAE and Qatar are in the Process of Reopening Embassies

UAE and Qatar are in the process of reopening their embassies in an effort to restore diplomatic ties between the two countries.

The effort to reopen embassies is being taken two years after the 2021 Al Ula agreement was signed in Saudi Arabia at a GCC Summit, which ended the Arab boycott of Qatar. The agreement was signed to reinforce unity amongst the Arab states and help them tackle various common challenges together.

Saudi Arabia and Egypt have already reappointed ambassadors to Doha and were the first Arab countries to do so. Bahrain also declared that it would resume diplomatic ties with Qatar on April 12th.

Since the Al Ula agreement was signed in 2021, various visits have taken place between the two countries, which involved discussing ventures for mutual prosperity.

UAE had already restored travel links to Qatar in 2021 and it was a layover destination for travellers travelling to the FIFA Worldcup Qatar 2022.
